AMD metal is superior to all others we have found. They have there own tooling as already mentioned. They are huge in Mopar metal, only started getting into GM last couple years. It is a tough sell since everyone is use to buying sheetmetal cheaper everywhere else. I prefer AMD when it is available for the car we are working on. I saw some of the AMD sheetmetal at a swap meet about a year ago and it looked great but I really didnt have anything to compare it to. It took me months to get a full floor to fit properly in my 69 but from what I am hearing from the above posts my sheetmetal for the rest of my car is going to be AMD. Thanks for the posts.
I used AMD installation center. It seems pricey at first, but totally worth it. I'm doing a ground up resto and can handle all mechanical/assembly work myself. I needed someone to handle the sheet metal. And to do it right. If you're not aware of this, the whole operation is supervised by Craig Hopkins, the guy from Chop, Cut, Rebuild. Hi Jim, Since you have to order from the states it can be a little pain but in my experience with AMD metal I have found the quality to be top notch. Summit, Jegs and belair bobs are good also you may consider NPD (National Parts Depot) as well and additionally ground up is another good source. I purchased AMD quarter panels for my 69 and will post pic's of the work shortly. I can't compare them to any other brand (never used aftermarket sheetmetal before) but I can say that the door and trunk gaps are identical to what we started with. My car was a original owner, original sheet metal and paint car before I started my restoration.

RH 69 quarter was poor, entire stock of 4 at Summit Racing had the same problems. Golden legion RH quarter much better Golden legion trunk lid good, but went through 2 at NPD to find a good one. They don't mind. AMD full floor perfect. Dynacorn full trunk ok AMD outer cowls useable not great AMD dash top perfect
Does anyone have a list of the original thicknesses for 1st Gen sheet metal? I have a number of "extra" front end pieces now and want to make sure which are OEM and which are aftermarket before I mislead someone accidentally. Cowl vent, fenders, valances, etc.
We normally use parts from AMD. Reason we used it was because customer had already purchased his sheet metal, all new gm panels. Quarters, rear pan, outer wheel wells an dynacorn trunk pan. Now I don't normally do that, but I know his guy so we did. We had no problems it fit as good as any we had from AMD.
My new AMD quarter panel mic's .047 on the trunk weather strip edge. There may be some thickness change due to the EDP coating. Sorry I can't get to any other area's to get a reliable check. Same weather strip edge on my new Goodmark quarter mic's .036. BTW, this type of sheet steel is called forming or drawing quality. It's not the same stuff .
